Clarence Seedorf came up from the youth academy in Ajax, joining Real Madrid in 1996 and enjoyed a decorated career for his club and country.
He made over 150 appearances for the Spanish giants, and is regarded as one of the best midfielders of his era. He won two Champions League and one La Liga in his three season spell with Los Blancos, and is remembered fondly in Spain.
Since his retirement from football as player in 2014, the former Dutch midfielder experienced a bitter sweet experience as a manager, coaching clubs like Milan, Deportivo La Coruna and Shenzhen. He is now the coach of Cameroon National team.
On the other hand, Real Madrid were shocked when their former coach Zinedine Zidane handed over his resignation after winning three consecutive Champions League for the club.
Los Blancos has suffered since then, unable to find a proper guide to propel them to glory. Clarence Seedorf was one of the names in the wish list to manage Los Blancos, but eventually lost out to Julen Lopetegui.
Real Madrid is currently under the tutelage of Argentine manager Santiago Solari, who took over when Lopetegui was sacked following a string of poor performances.
The heart of the matter
The 42-year-old Cameroon coach claimed the mere fact that he was considered as a manager to guide Real Madrid is an honour to him. In an interview with Goal, Seedorf said:
